Remember when we used to dance at shows?

We’re having the first show at my house up in New Paltz this Friday with Nightmares For A Week and The Peeps.

I’m half sure about how the bands will be set up, but there seems to be interest in the show and I really want to get some sort of punk scene going at New Paltz.

Not that I don’t love hipster shows.

In case anyone's interested...

I made an acoustic album, if you like that sort of thing. It’s free. A few tracks are also up streaming on my solo myspace as well (myspace.com/mikevizzi)

I Thought That You Might Like This

You ever hear a song and it brings you right back to the time period when you got into it? Bomb The Music Industry’s cover of A Shine To It always does that to me. It came on yesterday and I was right back into a weekend last semester working on a senior seminar paper stressed as shit because I couldn’t see an end in sight.

Ask my girlfriend or my roommate, I just had that song on repeat for 48 hours. I even figured it out on ukulele and kept playing it.

Guidofest '10

Craig thinks he’s hot shit, but I am the mixmaster. If he thinks his mix can beat my mix, he’s got another thing coming. Like Judas Priest’s “You’ve Got Another Thing Coming,”

He’s got another thing coming.

Matt Guido

It’s that time of year again. My favorite time of year, actually. Matt Guido is having his annual mix cd contest so he has something to listen to on his long drive up to school.

I got this shit.

Nix 86

We played the CD release show on Nix 86 last night in a small room at Ethical Humanist Society in Garden City.

We were all really impressed by the first band, Verbosa. They don’t have anything recorded yet. I would describe their music as post hardcore. And though I’m not that into the genre they were phenomenal, the kind of band that’s so good it doesn’t matter what they’re playing.

It was so hot in that room but that’s not new to us. I really enjoyed playing and think it would be a good way to end our summer (unless another show pops up).

Nix 86 had a great energy to them, you can tell they all know what they’re doing.

If you haven’t done so yet, download our new EP!

Nananananana

There are nanas towards the end of Showtime.

Tonight Vizzi and I couldn’t even get to the microphones to sing them, you were all going nuts and it was awesome.

The Shanks new cd came out yesterday. I bought one, and you should to if you like them.

We have (what seems like) our last show of the summer next Thursday (8/12), which is The Nix 86 CD release show (what’s with all the CD release shows?). It’s only five bucks and I promise it will be a super fun time.

Our last goal for the summer is a total of 4 new songs to record during the winter (and then release to you all for free!). So far 2 of them are done, 1 is getting there and the other one we’ve barely started. If we can get two or three more practices in I think we can pull it off. Woo!

Hey, do you wanna go talk about hats?

First off, I’m excited to announce that our new EP is done! We’ve been playing most of these songs forever, it’s nice to finally have them recorded. As always, you can download it for free (right here).

Also, I know I’ve said this before, but I want to thank everyone who came out tonight for once again reminding me why I do this shit. Superthanks to Drew for filling in and drumming for us (and again this coming thursday at the Nix86 CD release show) and to him, Lisa, and Ben for not dying after all of them played multiple sets tonight. I can’t believe summer’s almost over already, fuck. Anyway, it was awesome seeing Bennyfab tonight, I wish they’d play more often…My Strapping Stimulus Package and The Shanks were great as usual, not to mention Patent Pending…you know, there is a certain irony in the expression “not to mention”, now that I think about it…hmm.

See you Thursday!

-Vizzi

Edit: The “not to mention” thing was a non-sequitor. If you thought it was a jab at Patent Pending, read a dictionary and learn the definition of “irony”. If I was going to insult them, then saying “not to mention” would have been the opposite of ironic. Just to clarify, the Patent Pending dudes have been nothing but cool to us and they helped make tonight awesome. I would love to play with them again as soon as possible. Actually, while I’m on that note, I just want to say, I know that people like to rag on Patent Pending, but let’s be real: they’re seriously good people who give a damn about their fans and play little bowling alley shows with my shitty band even though they regularly headline at bigger venues. You don’t have to like their music, but, fuck, they’re respectable. To look at decent human beings who have done nothing but to try to create something for you to enjoy and to make them the target of your hate accomplishes nothing but fueling your own ego, grow up.

Two Backyard Shows In One Day (Oh Dear)

First show of Saturday (7/31) was Tom Rizzetta’s Birthday show. The Shanks were unable to play so it was us, My Strapping Stimulus Package (who we’re buddies with), and a blues band called Baxter Meets His Match. We played an interesting mix of songs. We played our older songs and two brand new songs. Tom requested a Mighty Mighty Bosstones cover so we spent 10 minutes before we went on listening to The Impression That I Get through my car stereo as the horns figured out how to play it. I already knew it on bass and we had Drew from Stimulus Package play it on guitar while Vizzi growled that shit out. It fell apart at times but it was fun. We had fun.

After shmoozing around for a bit us and Stimulus Package who were also playing two shows that day left and went to the next backyard show. Fiesta IV! Let Me Crazy played which means Jimmy Doyle (from The Fad and The Forthrights) was there. If you’re one of the lucky ones who got their hands on one of our unfinished EPs then you know our party track (party means Vizzi plays acoustic guitar while the rest of us scream/sing the song) is Vinyl Paradise by The Fad. We played after Let Me Crazy so after our set I spoke with Jimmy for a bit and handed him a demo. The rest of the band would have preferred I had not done that but I think it’s funny. We chose it as a party track because we like the song and it’s hard to sing, I hope he gets a kick out of it.

We get along with My Strapping Stimulus Package as people but I also really like their music. I’m really excited for the EP they’re going to release at the end of the summer, their songs are very catchy and well written.

We should be releasing our new EP sometime in the next few days, and we’ll have burned copies of it for the East Islip Lanes Show we’re playing this Friday (8/6). The show has a solid line up including My Strapping Stimulus Package, Benny Fabulous, The Shanks (album release show), and Patent Pending. SHOULD BE FUN TIMES!

Stay True,

Craig Shay
